IDL Candidate advice on resignation
This must be one of the hardest things to do in life, hand in your notice. But it is worth remembering to focus on the end result and once you have made your decision, don’t delay, this can only make things seem a lot harder.
It is important that you hand write your resignation letter, as it can be difficult to verbally express your feelings. The letter must be concise and to the point. Remember to be polite and to thank them for their assistance and support during your time with them.
It is best to discuss your departure date, at the end of handing in your resignation letter, it can always change if the circumstances dictate. This will help your employer enormously as they will be able to make arrangements for your replacement. You must work your contractual notice period unless stated by your employer. This can sometimes be broken if arrangements are decided by your employer and yourself.
